Service Beyond The Call

Had to mention yesterday's event on line.

Chrissie has been struggling with a very irritating ailment for the last few months and after tolerating the discomfort for too long, contacted our local surgery back home. They prescribed a dose of very strong antibiotics and promised to forward a letter to our new chemist here in Audlem.

Unusually, the letter seemed to take days to arrive. All of this, while the infection became increasingly aggravated. God only knows, that she's had enough ill health to deal with over the years, without the additional discomfort of this latest sickness.

I travelled into the village yesterday to enquire as to whether the mail had been delivered, only to be informed that at 12.30pm, there was still no sign of the letter. My face must have been a picture. It was Saturday afternoon and the chemist closed at 1pm, which meant that Chrissie's earliest relief from pain would possibly be Monday morning! I trundled back to the boat with the sad news, only to find that Chrissie was in even more discomfort. The bad news was not very welcome indeed.

At around 1.30pm, there was a knock on the cabin door. To our amazement, the lady chemist had enquired at the marina office for directions to our boat. They'd furnished her with a detailed plan of the 227 berth marina and indicated where we were moored. It's quite some distance from the office and anyone new to the place would struggle to identify our boat. Never the less, this determined woman found us and to our relief, had brought the medication for Chrissie.

Apparently, the postman had delivered just after I'd called to the chemist, so, armed with the goods, the lady came over (out of hours) and saved the day!

In these days of reputedly poor customer service, how good was that?

Needless to say, this rural branch of Boots, holds a coveted company award for excellent service. We shall definitely be endorsing our support for that trophy to be retained next year!
